Abbie Chatfield reacts to Peter Dutton losing his seat

Media personality Abbie Chatfield has broken down in tears at the election result.

The staunch Green supporters was pleased Labour had won and positively revelled in the Coalition’s loss and Peter Dutton exiting his seat.

But she was full of tears with the prospect that Greens leader Adam Bandt could be defeated in his electorate.

The star did a series of Instagram posts as Saturday’s election results rolled in, saying she was “so proud of Australians’ who gave their support to Anthony Albanese and the Greens”.

Abbie Chatfield near tears over election result

“This is the most important election of our lives. There are so many things at stake here,” she said.

“This is just so relieving. This is so important for our mental health not living in a country where the majority of people are hateful,” she said.

“I really do believe Australians are intelligent, empathetic people as a whole. It felt like we were American levels of divided, this result has shown we aren’t divided.”

Chatfield later shared a post revelling in Peter Dutton’s loss, where he failed to not only take out the election for the Liberal Party but his own seat of Dickson was taken away from him too.

The 29-year-old faked being distraught about the results, but used it as an opportunity to call out the Liberal Party.

“This is the feeling Peter Dutton has when he realised he had not only lost the election but also his seat,” she said.

“It’s the feeling he gets when he realises that maybe it WAS important to release party policy and costings, be even relatively normal in any interview, appeal to women and young people and to not take notes from Trump as he actively ruins the US.”

And while those tears were faked for impact about Mr Dutton, they were very much real about the man Chatfield threw a lot of her weight behind during the campaign process — even appearing at political events beside him.

“The joy has worn off now I want to cry in sadness. The Greens are not looking good and I feel sick,” she said.

“Adam Bandt cannot lose his seat.”

The 2025 Federal Election was under a microscope with media personalities such as Chatfield, influencers, athletes and advocates becoming more vocal than ever before during the election campaign.

Hannah Ferguson, who is the woman behind new media brand Cheek Media Co, updated fans live about how she was feeling on her personal Instagram during the vote counting process.

Sharing a snap of herself on the couch with wine in hand, she said; “I’m going to cry if Ali France beats Dutton. I had the privilege of campaigning for her three years ago (when I worked in the trade union movement and before I left the Labor Party),” she said.

“Ali is an amputee, she was a journalist, she lost her teenage son to Leukemia last year. She is a genuinely beautiful woman. I’m rooting for her. She was a joy to stand beside EVERY DAY on pre-poll rain, hail or shine.”

And, when it was confirmed that Ms France had indeed won the seat, Ms Ferguson took to social media once again to call the Labor Party’s victory a “huge sliding doors moment” in Australia.

“We chose right. I am so proud to have been some part of that,” she said.

“I believe in so much more than the two party system, but this is the right direction.”

Content creator Kath Ebbs, who has made headlines over the last week due to their break up from reality star and musician JoJo Siwa, posted a news article that stated Mr Dutton had been ousted from parliament.

Sarah Williams, who is the woman behind What Were You Wearing? took to TikTok to express her feelings about the election, saying she was glad Peter Dutton didn’t win the battle for prime minister.

“But don’t settle for Albo remaining quiet on the women being killed,” she said, encouraging people to attend her organisation’s rallies.

Ms Williams and Mr Albanese famously had a run in at one of the rallies held in 2024, with the young woman bursting into tears over what had taken place.

Meanwhile, TikTok star Daphne Berry took to the social media platform to weigh in on the results.

“Not only did Peter Dutton lose the election but he lost his seat and you know what’s really handy for unemployed people,” she asked. “Medicare.”

Model and content creator Jeff Kissubi said “how embarrassing” when it came to the loss by the Liberals — and specifically Mr Dutton losing the seat of Dickson.
