Boy, 8, out of coma after Sydney woman’s kidnapping and death

An eight-year-old boy who was bashed with a baseball bat during a home invasion in Sydney has emerged from an induced coma after almost two weeks.

Her body was later found in a burnt-out car in nearby Beverly Hills.

Thi Kim Tran, originally from Vietnam, moved to Australia for a better life and to raise a family. (Nine)

Police believe she was killed over husband’s alleged association with a criminal drug manufacturing network.

Police also believe the man was in “conflict” with his superiors within the alleged crime network.

9News understands Tran’s husband was away on business in Queensland at the time. He is not facing any charges.

The eight-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy were inside at the time of the home invasion.

The eight-year-old was struck on the head with a baseball bat before Tran was abducted.

An investigation with both NSW and Victoria Police is ongoing. (Nine)

The child was placed into an induced coma.

Today, 9News was told that the boy had emerged from the coma, almost two weeks after the attack.

The 15-year-old was uninjured in the attack, but NSW Police Homicide Squad Commander Joe Doueihi said at the time he suffered severe “psychological injury”.

Homicide detectives are currently leading the investigation as the hunt continues for those responsible.

No arrests have yet been made.
