ASIC scopes data forensics future ahead of Nuix deal expiry – Software
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission is planning a major overhaul of its digital evidence-gathering environment, ahead of the late-2027 expiry of a $22.7 million contract with Nuix. The corporate regulator has started scoping a “high-level” architecture to support its digital forensics and eDiscovery capabilities, which it uses to collect and analyse evidence during investigations. ASIC is also set to tender for new early case assessment and evidence management software sometime in the next quarter. ATO to rename myGovID to myID in mid-November – Security – Software
The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) will formally rebrand myGovID to myID in mid-November, about a year after it received the funding to do so. The ATO confirmed the timeline for the rebrand of the digital identity app on Friday. The tax office received $11.5 million in the mid-year economic and fiscal outlook (MYEFO) at the end of 2023 [pdf] to deliver the rebrand. EU tells Apple how to open up to rivals – Software
EU antitrust regulators have launched proceedings to ensure that Apple complies with landmark rules requiring it to open up its closed ecosystem to rivals or risk a possible hefty fine. Under the so-called specification proceedings, the European Commission will spell out what Apple has to do to abide by the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which came into effect last year. “Today is the first time we use specification proceedings under the DMA to guide Apple towards effective compliance with its interoperability obligations through constructive dialogue,” EU antitrust chief Margrethe Vestager said in a statement. FBI disrupts ‘Flax Typhoon’ hacking group – Security
US law enforcement has disrupted a second major Chinese hacking group nicknamed “Flax Typhoon” and wrested thousands of compromised devices from its grasp, FBI director Christopher Wray said. CBA banks on AWS EC2 P5 instances to accelerate AI development – Finance – Cloud
Commonwealth Bank has signed up to use EC2 P5 compute instances served out of AWS’ Sydney region, which it will use to power an “AI factory” aimed at moving faster with generative AI. The bank said in a statement that it is the “first local AWS customer” to use EC2 P5 instances in the AWS Sydney region.
