Empty home damaged during ‘suspicious’ fire in Melbourne’s west

Emergency services were called to an unoccupied property on Caroll Street in Deer Park at around 7am following reports of a fire. Firefighters arrived on the scene to find smoke and flames billowing from the roof of the single-storey home. The fire was under control by 8.13am. The cause of the fire remains unknown and an arson chemist is expected to attend the scene. Investigations into the cause of the fire, which police believe is suspicious, remain ongoing. Driver accused of hit-run crash that killed 84-year-old released on bail

The driver allegedly behind a crash that killed an elderly man in Perth is out on bail tonight, insisting he wasn’t aware he’d collided with the victim. The 84-year-old was just metres from his home in Wembley when he was struck and left lying in the middle of the road. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is expected to announce a $204 million pledge to introduce around-the-clock healthcare. Labor’s latest Medicare promise will include a 24/7 health advice line and access to after-hours doctors via telehealth for free under a rebranded 1800MEDICARE program. Two people were arrested during a fiery clash between opposing protest marches yesterday in Melbourne’s CBD. A man and a woman were arrested after violence erupted outside Parliament House in Spring Street when women’s rights protesters clashed with transgender rights activists.
