E-bike blaze leaves woman without her home and most of her possessions
The blaze, which erupted at about 9.20am, caused an estimated $350,000 worth of damage.
Croydon Park resident Michelle Sant managed to escape the rapidly spreading fire with her dog.
“I just walked out and everything was on fire,” she said.
A faulty e-bike charger is believed to be the cause of the blaze.
“Early reports were that the fire started in the kitchen area, central to the house and in that space is an e-bike on charge,” Darren Scott from the Metropolitan Fire Service said.
“It just all of a sudden exploded,” Sant said.
“I saw flames and everything and then it was up.”
Two other residents from an adjoining unit were also evacuated without injury.
The presence of working smoke alarms is credited with enabling the occupants to quickly alert emergency services.
