Man accused of killing teen Audrey Griffin found dead
Adrian Torrens, the man accused of killing NSW teenager Audrey Griffin has reportedly died in custody.
The 53-year-old was found unresponsive in a cell at Silverwater Correctional Complex in Western Sydney at about 4.50pm on Thursday, The Daily Telegraph reported.
He was unable to be revived by Corrective Services staff and paramedics.
Torrens was found just hours before a vigil was held for the 19-year-old in Terrigal.
Torrens was arrested on Monday and charged with murder, nearly one month after the body of Ms Griffin was discovered in a creek bed near The Entrance Road at Erina, on NSW’s Central Coast.
Ms Griffin’s death has initially been treated as a drowning, but that all changed after Torrens confessed in a phone call to an associate.
He was charged with murdering the young woman, who was not known to him, on March 23.
Torrens was due to face court again in June, but police are now investigating the man’s death, that is not being treated as suspicious.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
