The Liberal Party will take a Melbourne council to court, after a stoush over campaign signs at a pre-polling booth came to a head this morning. Officers from Boroondara Council attended a pre-polling station on High Street in Kew earlier today and removed “non-permitted advertising” displayed by Kooyong Liberal Candidate Amelia Hamer. The council had enforced a one-sign per party rule outside the polling station this year, following previous concerns the volume of political advertising was blocking the footpath and posing a safety risk to pedestrians. Crane tips, crushing cars at Bond University on the Gold Coast
A crane has fallen and crushed parked cars at a Gold Coast university. The incident happened at Bond University about 11am Wednesday. Nobody was injured, a Queensland fire service spokeswoman told NewsWire. Only one firefighting crew was called to the scene, and they cleaned up a small spill before the scene was left with security and the crane operator, the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said. Cyclist dies after being struck by allegedly stolen car in hit and run in Queensland
Police said a 34-year-old was on a bicycle on Takalvan Street in Millbank at 7.50pm when he was struck by a black Hyundai IX35. The driver of the allegedly stolen car left the scene and was found a short time later. Emergency services commenced CPR on the cyclist, however he died at the scene. The man has not been publicly identified. Police are seeking CCTV or dashcam vision as they continue to investigate the crash. Source link
