Partner of Perth surfer killed in Mexico remembers slain trio one year on

The partner of an Australian man allegedly murdered alongside his brother and a friend in Mexico one year ago has shared an anniversary message.

Perth brothers Callum and Jake Robinson were surfing with their American friend Jack Carter Rhoad in Mexico 12 months ago when they were killed.

Authorities discovered their bodies a week later.

Four people have been arrested and charged, with police alleging in court the trio were killed in a robbery attempt.

Callum’s girlfriend, Emily Howarth, has released a lengthy tribute to her partner and his companions.

“Still living on a roller coaster of denial and disbelief, only to be engulfed by the wave of reality,” she said.

“I feel so beyond grateful for our love. A love that changed my life, a love I’d carry this grief for in every lifetime.

“Your story isn’t over, your impact isn’t over — as we continue to share your story, spread your love and speak your name.

“Our red string, always connected. I will carry you always. Loving you beyond this lifetime.”

Callum and Jake’s parents have established a foundation in the brothers’ name.

Callum was a professional lacrosse player, and alongside funding for coastal clean ups and access to sporting equipment, the foundation aims to fundraise for insulin pumps.

The three men were travelling in the Baja California region, about 80km south of US border.

Jake and Jack were aged 30, Callum was 33. They went missing on April 27, 2024, when they did not arrive at booked accommodation.

Their bodies were found on May 3 down a 15m well near their campsite.

One man has been charged with aggravated homicide. Three associates have been charged with kidnapping.

A fundraiser garnered more than $51,000 for the Robinsons’ parents to travel to Mexico and identify their sons’ bodies.
