Police stand-off ends when man drives off Claremont Jetty
A suspenseful police stand-off has ended with a man driving his Jeep off a jetty into the Swan River near Perth.
The incident unfolded about 10am on Tuesday when police received reports a red Jeep Wrangler had been driven onto the Claremont Jetty.
TRG officers, the air wing and water police where on the scene as police tried to negotiate with the male driver for about an hour before he drove his vehicle into the Swan River.
The man reversed down the jetty then drove at speed towards a police boat before it plunged into the river.
The driver climbed out of the car and was taken into custody.
“The man was uninjured,” a police spokesman said.
St John Ambulance confirmed they took the man aged in his 30s to Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital.
A witness told 6PR she saw a red Jeep “screaming down” the Stirling Hwy and thought he was going to have an accident before it mounted a footpath and headed down a road towards the jetty.
