Movie fans have been waxing lyrical about a Clint Eastwood directed movie from 10 years ago which is now available on Prime Video. American Sniper, tells the true story of US Navy SEAL Sniper Chris Kyle, played by Bradley Cooper, who packed on 40lbs to play the part. Kyle was officially the deadliest marksman in U.S. military history with 255 kills from four tours in the Iraq War, 160 of which were officially confirmed by the Department of Defense. However he struggled with the toll of his work after serving in Iraq for years. When he returned home to his wife and son he developed PTSD which affected his relationships all while he was celebrated for his military successes.

It was first released in November 2014 the Express gave it four out of five stars at the time describing it as: “A typically thoughtful, unflashy Clint Eastwood production”. It went on to become the 13th highest grossing film of the year worldwide. It was nominated for six Oscars including best actor for Cooper. Viewers have been deeply affected by the film and gushed about it in their reviews describing it as “moving” and a “triumph”.

“American Sniper is an absolute cinematic triumph, a monumental achievement in storytelling and a profoundly moving experience. From the very first frame, director Clint Eastwood masterfully immerses the viewer in the intense and harrowing reality faced by Navy SEAL Chris Kyle. Bradley Cooper delivers a career-defining performance, embodying Kyle with a raw intensity and nuanced vulnerability that is nothing short of breathtaking….It’s a must-see film that will resonate deeply with audiences for generations to come,” one raved.

Clint Eastwood is a wonderful director as well as actor. American Sniper is one of the most thrilling and amazing movies…This film’s direction is on next level and the cinematography is amazing. It deals with mental conditions like PTSD which often happens to Veterans…This movie deserves 10/10,” a second gushed.

A third chimed in: “American Sniper totally deserved the Oscar win and multiple nominations in 2015. Bradley’s acting during the crucial parts of this film is outstanding. The action scenes are all so well designed…The audience is made to realise the dark impact the war’s bloodshed has on Chris’ soul and how it slowly changes his personality, subconsciously…We’re put to a very deep personal conflict- ‘honor & glory’ vs ‘family & simplicity in life’. And the film’s ending scenes answer this strong dilemma in a justified way. I would absolutely recommend this film to everyone.”

“One of the most beautiful and moving films I’ve ever seen,” a fourth penned. “Chris Kyle is an all American hero and one of the greatest men who ever lived.”

“At first I didn’t think it was going to be a good movie but I watched it AND IT WAS AWESOME. The movie showed what the men and had to go through over there and it broke my heart to really see the effect it had on them…Clint Eastwood did an awesome awesome job. If I could give the movie a ten star I would.”

Meanwhile a sixth added: “I enjoy watching war movies, especially the ones based on true stories. This particular film is directed by one of my favorite actors and directors: Clint Eastwood. He dies an excellent job putting us in the film with an outstanding and commendable war veteran suffering with the common disorder, PTSD. The detailed events displayed after Chris Kyle returns home and the effects his behavior has on his family is outstanding. I don’t think another director could have ‘grabbed’ us better with the gripping details of his tour and his life.”

American Sniper is available to rent on Prime Video.
