Millions pause to mark Anzac Day as dawn breaks across Australia

As dawn breaks across the country, millions of people will pause to mark Anzac Day in tribute to the men and women who have served in Australia’s defence forces. Solemn dawn services will be held from suburban parks to the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, and overseas from the shores of Gallipoli to the fields of Villers-Brettoneux in France. The rest of the day will be marked by parades and wreath-laying events, followed by the usual long-weekend celebrations. E-bike blaze leaves woman without her home and most of her possessions

An Adelaide woman has been left without her home and most of her possessions after escaping a devastating fire, believed to have been caused by a faulty e-bike charger, with only her pet dog.  The blaze, which erupted at about 9.20am, caused an estimated $350,000 worth of damage. South-west Sydney aged care worker charged with sexually assaulting elderly residents

An aged care worker has been charged with sexually assaulting residents in a south-west Sydney facility. The 46-year-old woman is accused of assaulting seven elderly residents at the Macarthur region aged care home where she worked. As part of an investigation, detectives seized her phone, which allegedly contained videos taken at the facility depicting sexual abuse, which had also been sent to her partner, a 54-year-old man. Restaurant apologises after woman complains she found rat in salad

A north-west Sydney restaurant has apologised to customers after a customer complained that a rat was found in a woman’s salad. India and Pakistan cancel visas of each others’ nationals as tensions rise

India and Pakistan have cancelled visas to each other’s citizens amid rising tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours as India blames Pakistan for a deadly attack by gunmen that killed 26 people, mostly tourists, in disputed Kashmir. Indian authorities today said all visas issued to Pakistani nationals would be revoked with effect from Sunday, adding that all Pakistanis currently in India must leave before their visas expire based on the revised timeline. Adrian Torrens, the man accused of murdering the Central Coast teen, dies in police custody

Police said the 53-year-old was found unresponsive about 4.50pm today in a cell at western Sydney’s Silverwater Correctional Complex. Corrective Services personnel and paramedics were unable to revive him. Audrey Griffin, 19, was found half-submerged in Erina Creek, Erina on the Central Coast at 3.45pm on March 24. Bites on skeleton’s bones show first evidence of gladiators fighting lions

A skeleton recovered from an intriguing Roman-era cemetery in England may mark the first physical evidence of combat between gladiators and animals, according to new research. The skeleton of a man, who was between the ages of 26 and 35 when he died, was found with bite marks from a large cat — likely a lion — on the pelvis.
