Anthony Albanese asked brutal question in fiery interview
Anthony Albanese has refused to reveal if his electricity bill has gone up since he was elected in a fiery clash where he was called a liar before conceding he lives in the Lodge where he enjoys “a life of privilege.” The Prime Minister, who famously grew up in public housing, repeatedly clashed with 2GB host and long-time critic Mark Levy on Monday morning over the cost of living, Medicare and Welcome to Country ceremonies. The radio host noted the Prime Minister’s calls for “respect” before asking if the “Australian people deserve some respect from you, Mr. Albanese, when it ... Read more
PM wants schools to show to Netfilx drama Adolescence
Anthony Albanese has encouraged all schools to use the Netflix show Adolescence as a resource to educate boys on gendered violence, saying it is “absolutely so important” young people watch the program. The acclaimed show depicts a family after their teenage son stabs a girl to death and the role social media played in the tragedy. The Prime Minister, campaigning in Roberston on the NSW Central Coast on Monday, singled out the program as he announced more funding to fight domestic violence. In an attempt to pile on the pressure on the Liberals to release their own budget bottomline, the Treasurer has now released the full costs and new savings measures. Tensions over women’s rights, trans issues boil over in Melbourne
Arrests have been made following Saturday’s chaotic protests in Melbourne’s CBD, where rival demonstrations between women’s rights activists and pro-trans counter-protesters escalated into violent street clashes. The unrest stemmed from a rally organised by Women’s Voices Australia on the steps of Parliament House, where about 50 supporters gathered for the “Women Will Speak” event, advocating for women’s rights to single-sex change rooms and sporting competitions. Organisers of the rally said proposed government plans to expand Victoria’s hate speech laws to include the LGBTQIA+ community posed a threat to freedom of speech. Opposition demands briefing on Russian request to Indonesia after PM’s ‘shifty responses’
The Coalition has accused Anthony Albanese of “shifty responses” to questions regarding Russia’s request to station warplanes at an Indonesian air base and demanded an immediate briefing after it was reported authorities learned of the matter in March. Who knew what and when about the request has emerged as an unexpected twist in the federal election campaign, with the Prime Minister and cabinet ministers keeping coy when asked publicly. A blunder from Peter Dutton earlier this month — when the Opposition Leader falsely said Indonesia’s president had publicly confirmed the Russian request — revealed the opposition seemingly knew very little. ...
