Federal election 2025: Albanese, Dutton on day 32 of May 3 election campaign
Peter Dutton left the audience of the final leaders’ debate gobsmacked when he could not answer how much a dozen eggs cost. The question during the final election leaders’ debate on Sunday night might not have been about policy, but it was the question that went to the heart of the cost-of-living crisis faced by struggling families. During a quickfire round on the Seven Network’s Final Showdown, both Anthony Albanese and Mr Dutton were asked about the cost of a dozen eggs. The Opposition Leader left audience members stunned by his answer of “about $4.20,” with some audibly laughing at ... Read more
Election 2025: Dutton’s telling blow up in final leaders’ debate
The final debate of the election campaign was certainly feistier than the first three. There were multiple moments of frustration, bordering on outright anger, between the two leaders. Part of that, presumably, can be ascribed to the Coalition’s fading prospects of victory next Saturday, should the polls prove to be accurate. A Newspoll released shortly before the debate showed no movement whatsoever. And when you’re chasing, movement is what you need. So with that in mind, it is hardly surprising that Peter Dutton was usually the instigator during the debate, and repeatedly accused Anthony Albanese of being dishonest in quite ... Read more
Hero who rescued shark attack victim Mani Zhang ‘wasn’t thinking’ about the shark or his safety when he jumped in the water
A “hero” bystander who rescued a woman mauled by a shark off Sydney’s south has revealed he wasn’t thinking about the potentially lurking shark when he leapt into action, with the risk to his own safety trumped by the desperate need to save her. Mangyon “Mani” Zhang, 57, was swimming laps about 10m from the shore at Gunyah Beach in Bundeena last month when she was mauled by what’s believed to have been a bull shark. Meant to just be a quick swim, Ms Zhang told 60 Minutes she felt as though she’d been stung by something before she got ... Read more
Federal election 2025: Newspoll reveals bad news for Peter Dutton
More than half of all voters believe Peter Dutton and the Coalition are not ready to govern the nation, according to the latest Newspoll. The poll, published by The Australian six days before the May 3 election, revealed 62 per cent of the 1254 voters surveyed between April 21 and 24 did not believe Mr Dutton and his team had what it takes to assume power. Mum’s horror after giving birth to baby six weeks early
At 18 months old, baby Luca has endured more than most people will in their lifetime. Perth parents Ashleigh and Cody welcomed their little boy at just 33 weeks – six weeks earlier than expected – and nothing could have prepared them for what would ensue in the following 11 months. Luca, who was born on November 9, the day after his mum’s baby shower, entered the world with CHARGE syndrome, a genetic condition that affects the heart, nerves, genitalia, eyes and ears. Red flags first appeared at Ashleigh’s 20 week scan when she was told there could be “a ... Read more

Loved ones of a high-ranking Queensland police officer are set to gather to celebrate his life nearly two months after he went missing in NSW. His car was found parked and unattended at the Broken Head Beach carpark in NSW’s Northern Rivers region at some point the morning of March 25, while his surfboard was later found by someone walking along the beach about 500m north of where his car was found. The surfboard was not damaged ... Read more
Coalition defence spending pledge ‘plucked out of air’: Butler
A senior minister has defended Labor’s military spending and slammed the Coalition’s election pledge to boost the defence budget to 2.5 per cent of GDP by 2030 as “plucked out of air”. With the Trump White House’s “America First” agenda casting doubt on the US’ commitment to global security, many of Washington’s closest allies – including Australia – have been scrambling to bolster their defences. The Coalition has accused the Albanese government of dropping the ball on defence, despite tens of billions going into expanding the country’s defensive and offensive capabilities. Health Minister Mark Butler said on Sunday that Labor ... Read more
